Solid Control
Cyclone Assembly
The Cyclone Assembly is designed to control sand, grit, iron sulfide, and other damaging particulates within downhole pump systems. By actively collecting and redirecting solids, it helps protect critical components and maintain consistent operation.
Cyclone Assembly
The Cyclone Assembly is designed to reduce the impact of solids accumulation within downhole pump systems. In conventional pump designs, particulates such as sand and formation fines collect between the barrel and plunger, leading to vertical scoring, increased friction, and accelerated wear. These conditions often result in stuck plungers, unplanned shutdowns, and damage to the rod string.
When integrated into a pump assembly, the Cyclone Assembly actively manages solids throughout the operating cycle. During the upstroke, particulates are collected within the tapered rings of the Cyclone Ported Section. On the downstroke, these solids, along with those accumulated between the barrel and plunger, are forced inward through axial evacuation ports and into the center of the plunger. From there, they are carried into the tubing with produced fluids.
Radial ported vane technology within the assembly induces continuous rotation of fluids and particulates. This rotational movement promotes more uniform wear across the barrel and plunger surfaces, helping extend equipment life and improve overall efficiency.
When the pump is not in operation, settling solids are redirected away from critical wear areas and into the internal flow path of the system. This helps reduce the risk of stuck plungers and excessive wear during restart conditions.
The Cyclone Assembly functions as a solids remediation component and is designed for use with a standard API plunger. For optimal performance, it is recommended as part of a complete Cyclone System.
